Grace wants you to think she is a big bad dog but she has a favorite toy, a pink fluffy Hedgehog. She carries it around and plays with it but she will not destroy it. She even used it as a pillow in the RV on our trip.

I took Grace with me to San Diego over the Holidays so she would not have to go to a boarding kennel. She loved riding in the RV and watching the world go by. She loved being in the country and the freedom to roam but had to be separated at all times from the resident Grate Dane but behaved perfectly when she was left in the RV.
So I have had Grace in my home for a little over a year and she is doing great. She is perfect in the house and can be left home alone with no problems. She love's people and getting attention but she has issues with other animals. She needs to be an only pet in the house and controlled near other animals.
Grace is around 8 years old now and her age is showing. She can be a little stiff when getting up but in no way does it slow her down when it's time to play or hit the road. She needs to have an experienced owner, be an only animal in the house and probably best with no small children. After almost 5 months with me, Grace has made great progress. She is fully house trained and has full run of the house and back yard all the time by use of a dog door. She does not get on furniture or beds, does not get in the garage or counter surf for food. She has a serious bark when the doorbell rings, it will sure make someone think twice about doing no good, yet she is not a nuisance barker and ignores the neighbors dogs (which I have on all 3 sides of my back yard). She walks well on a leash and loves riding in the car.
Grace is under socialized and becomes nervous in new situations. She has a high prey drive and is aggressive towards other dogs and animals, however she is becoming better with training. Grace needs a strong owner who will keep her in check or she will take over in a second. She will need to be an only dog, no cats and no young children at this time. Ok I've been lagging in updating this site and the dogs I am fostering, so I'm going to try and update more often.
Cindy-Lou is doing great in her new home. It just goes to show their is a owner for every dog, you just have to find the right one. And GCGSR is a great rescue organization that it will keep a dog until the right home is found. Did you know that GCGSR has no paid positions, from the casual foster to all the board positions are volunteered. All the money collected from adoptions and donations goes right to saving dogs. After 2 years and 11 months, Cindy-Lou has been offically adopted! She was adopted by a very active owner and will have a great new home.
Cindy Lou went foster to adopt on November 5th. Seems like a good match at an active household for her. We will see if it works out after the 30 day FTA trial is up but it seems to be going well.
Well the two dogs got along fine, kind of avoiding each other, for 2 days and then they had a little scuffle (Which I expected to happen eventually). Grace went after Cindy Lou and Cindy Lou responded. I was able to separate them quickly with only minor scrapes and scratches. Grace went back to having a muzzle on. I decided to send Cindy Lou to another member of our group to foster for a couple weeks so I could spend more one-on-one time with Grace.
Well Murphy is at another foster house as I took in Grace; an approximately 5 year old female that was returned from a prior adopter. The prior adopter said that Grace has become aggressive towards other dogs and I picked up grace last Sunday.
Grace is very insecure and needs a very strong leader to set rules and enforce them. The first 5 days at my house she was either in her kennel or had a muzzle on when she was around Cindy-Lou (Kind of ironic that this is how Cindy-Lou was when I got her and now she is helping me train Grace). It took five days until I trusted Grace enough to have her without a muzzle around Cindy-Lou. The past few days she has slept on the bedroom floor with access to the house and yard via the doggy door and she has been doing very well. More updates to come. So I dug out my little portable battery operated alarm; I have used this with may dogs interested in the garbage. I set it on top of the garbage lid when I went to bed and again left the bedroom door open so Murphy would be able to go outside. Around 3:30 a.m. I woke to the sound of the alarm going off and Murphy was out in the back yard and he did not look happy. I reset the alarm and went back to bed. Murphy followed me to the bedroom and lay down but I still left the door open. He hasn't touched the garbage in the last 2 days.
He has become much more at ease at my house and is really a pretty mellow dog. It took 8 days but he finally was comfortable enough to lay on the floor next to me as I watched TV. He didn't stay long, moving to his dog bed after about 15 minutes, but that will change. |
