When I went downstairs I saw he had attempted to get into the kitchen garbage. I have a metal kitchen garbage container with a lid that you open by stepping on a pedal at the base of the container. The lid was closed but an empty Doritos bag was sticking halfway out from under the lid. So far this is the only thigh bad he as done in 7 days at my house.
Murphy has been doing so well that he earned a little more freedom and I left the bedroom door open last night. This way he can let himself out anytime and I don't have to get up early to take him outside.

So I went on vacation and Cindy-Lou has been with another foster home from our group. She has been doing great and gets along great with the person fostering her. She will stay at the other foster home until the next Rancho Cordova adoption day on the 20th.
I picked up a new boy last Tuesday named Murphy, he had just been rescued from the shelter 3 days before and I was told he did not like being left alone. He is a beautiful all black long haired male around 2 years old. He doesn't have a bio on the GCGSR website yet but it will be there soon. When I brought him into my house he was stressed and frantic, checking everything out and looking for a way to get out of my yard. After a couple hours of exploring his new foster home he crashed and slept for around 4 hours. He slept quietly that night on a dog bed on the floor of my bedroom with the door closed. He woke me up at 7:30 am to go outside. The second day he was much calmer, ate some food, got some treats and attention and he stopped trying to find a way to escape. He learned to use the dog door quickly but seemed very uncomfortable in the house (and the Camping World building we went to) but he has become more comfortable with it in the last few days. He has been in a kennel for short periods of time when I ran errands and he tolerated it with a little barking. So here is what I know so far. He seems to be house broken, doesn't seem interested in dog toys or tennis balls. Doesn't try to get on furniture or beds. Loves to meet people and be petted. Can be with other dogs if properly introduced. He is not an Alpha dog and is very happy to have a strong leader and follow along. He shuts down if scolded or given a hard leash correction so he probably wasn't treated the best in the past. He is a little insecure about new things and needs someone who will take him out to experience life and build his confidence. So I picked up Olaf yesterday evening from another volunteer who needed me to watch Olaf for the weekend. Olaf's bio here. I had only seen Olaf one time the weekend before and I was told he was reactive to other dogs. I have Cindy-Lou who can be reactive to unfriendly dog so I was not sure what to expect between the two. When I brought Olaf into my house I saw he is not aggressive at all, he actually wanted to play and gets very excited which can start a fight with another dog. Cindy-Lou reacted very well and did exactly what I told her to (She's such a good dog). The two are getting along just fine. Both slept on the floor of my bedroom last night and have been playing together all day.
Olaf just needs to learn some manners, have some rules enforced and proper introductions to other dogs. Not much to say, I still have Cindy-Lou and all she needs is a loving active home.
Thursday I will be getting Olaf for the weekend, he isn't real fond of other dogs so we'll see how it goes. The couple that were FTA Baird came to the adoption day yesterday and finialized his adoption, he now has a forever home. He seemed so happy and confident when I saw him yesterday I know his adopted family will take good care of him!
So nothing new with Cindy-Lou. She just needs an experienced dog owner who is active and can focus her drive and she will be a faithful companion for life.
Baird is doing well, he is house trained, doesn't get on the furniture or bed and loves to ride in the car. He still is food possessive but that is getting better with our work on it. He loves to be with his people and has not had any issues with other dogs. He knows basic commands and walks well on a leash. He sleeps with the tip of his tongue sticking out of his mouth and he and Cindy-Lou have become fast friends. Cindy-Lou got to go on her first RV road trip over the 4-day Columbus day weekend. We took a short road trip to Truckee with my helper Amanda, her parents and their GSD Cherish. Cindy-Lou behaved perfectly, loves to ride in any vehicle and again has rock solid house manners. She got into my drivers seat one time when we stopped, but not again after that when she was told not to. She got to play in the Truckee River and loves to pull rocks out of the water. This dog is ready to go wherever you do.
I picked up Baird in September and I have been fostering him with Cindy-Lou. Baird's full bio here.
He has good house manners, rides well in the car, and gets along with all other dogs that he has met. It appears that he has had some overly harsh leash corrections in the past and is a little leash sensitive. He seems to be a little timid of new people at first as a result but quickly warms up to you when he knows you mean no harm. He plays well with Cindy-Lou, including dog toys, but he is very food protective and eats so fast like he hasn't eaten in a long time. His eating has gotten slower, and better, with the use of a "slow feeding" bowl. He needs an experienced owner who can help him improve his confidence and enforce pack structure. Due to his reactiveness to food he should not go to a home with small children. Zodiac's adoption was finalized on the Roseville AD day on Saturday September 26th. Zodiac and his new owner already had a good bond, hooray for Zodiac.
So it's been awhile since I updated information here. Zodiac went foster to adopt at the Roseville adoption day last month and hopefully we found a good match this time.
I only have Cindy-Lou right now and she is ready for a home. Rock solid house manners, uses a dog door to go out whenever she wants to, does not get on furniture, loves to ride in the car. She is a very active dog that needs an experienced owner. No small dogs, cats or critters for this girl but she will do fine with another large male companion. |
